Tatton Park concept development

Image
When working on Tatton Park we created a colour palette to help us in choosing our plants. We had an initial idea of having 2 different colour palettes: dark and light. We then specified these in more detail using the palettes below. This really helped our design appear cohesive. When researching Frida Kahlo we created a word cloud which helped us focus on the important elements of her work. The main things which came out was a struggle. Frida was a disabled woman who suffered with mental and physical health following an accident which she had when she was young. We used these themes as a thread throughout our research and designing.

After adding in the photos from the moldboard I tried to resolve each area and explored a variety of shapes within the site to see how these would look within the site. There are 2 areas of play currently, this will hopefully increase the amount of families which can use the site. The play area is close to the main entrance and the car park, this would then make the families feel safer rather than the play spaces being deep into the site, where it may feel more unsafe for users.

Portfolio temporary layout

Image
For one of the project this semester I have been working on creating my portfolio. This has involved going through many projects I have worked on. I put everything on a temporary layout, a lot of the text on this is quite small and almost unreadable. This is therefore something I may have to redo/ explore other layouts.

After sketching the initial ideas I created a moldboard for the site on Pinterest and then added in photos from it to the plan, this made me assign each area a character/primary use. These primary uses will then be further explored within the site.

visualisations

Following on from the planting plan there were visualisations created by another member of the group to show the planting and how it will look when it is planted. These were then labelled by me to show our concept and how the garden will be interpreted by users.

Budget for Tatton

Image
A budget was created in order to show how we would spend the £750 if we were to be chosen for Tatton Park. The money would be stretched relatively thin and therefore we would probably need additional funding, especially for the plants which we will be using.

Planting choices

Image
After settling on a concept we chose our plants, this was initially done by one of our group members picking a wide range of plants and then I narrowed down the choices in order for our concept to shine through. We went with 2 different colour schemes: one to represent the darkness and one for the light. There will be a red ribbon throughout the border to show the link between these 2 ideas.

Alney idea

This was an initial sketch of my ideas of the site. I explored different shapes within the site and landed on using primarily circles to split the area up. The area will be a sensory experience, this is as a direct response to the distinct lack of character within the site. Everything proposed will have bright colours, this may be through paving or planting etc.
