Crystallization

Image
This is a photo from my front door with the crystallized filter. The filter lets you see the main shapes and colours within the photo, which can be an excellent start to designing something.    Here are some more photos that I tried the filter on; I like the one on the far left in terms of colour and the middle in terms of shape. I think this technique could definitely be something I use in the future.

Barnwood Park

Image
As part of one of our modules, we have visited Barnwood park and will be using it as one of the sites we will transform!                                                   These are some small sketches with colour to get a vague idea of the vibes of the site, which was a lot of green with a significant amount of brown.

Sketchbook

Image
I’ve been making a real effort to try and draw more in my sketchbook this week! I’ve always found it really really difficult to spend time just drawing/painting, I’ve always felt like it’s a “waste of time” or that I could be doing something more productive, which is obviously ridiculous! Over the next few weeks I’m going to schedule in time to make a real effort to try and draw something, even if it’s small just to stay on top of it all!

Transformation project

Image
In this exercise, I used a cracker and transformed it in different ways (including using cheese!). I liked the distortion and additive transformations as they involve layers rather than the others which is more about breaking up the object rather than changing its current form.

Trip to Utrecht!

Image
This weekend I went on a work trip to Utrecht to judge the Yugioh Championship Series for 3 days. The trip was primarily a work trip, so I didn't get to see much of the city, but one thing I noticed about the Netherlands is the country's flood management solutions. When we were on the plane above Amsterdam, you could see the water strips seamlessly integrated within the fields.  As you can see, the water lines are splitting off each area; I also saw sheep and cattle being "penned" in by the water rather than by fences. This is something that I think the UK could use to help with flood management, which is living with water rather than living fighting water.

Scale project

Image
One technique we have learnt is to create a model to use our creativity to create something new rather than something overly thought about. As part of this, we played around with the scale of the model and photoshopped them into different environments.

Modelling Technique

Image
During this week's lecture, we attempted a technique which used 2 words to create a model using cartridge paper. Although, at first, I was pretty sceptical of this technique, I felt as though as we did it more, I got more confident in creating "random" models that I could, in theory, use for a design. It isn't necessarily a technique I'd use again, but it's good exercise. If I ever find it challenging to create, it can help me find some starting point.                          As part of the assignment, I am using the far right model as a photoshopable image to shop the scale of the model.
